Excerpt: Anita Blake a fictional character in the Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter series of novels by Laurell K. Hamilton. Subsequently, she has also appeared in the Dabel Brothers/Marvel Comics adaptation of her first novel, Guilty Pleasures. The series takes place in a parallel fantasy world where vampires, shape shifters, werewolves, faeries, etc. exist. Her night job, and primary source of income, is the legal profession of re-animating the dead. As an "animator" in a parallel St. Louis, her job entails using magical abilities to bring temporary life to dead bodies in order to question them for legal purposes. She is a necromancer, which allows her to control the dead, including vampires and zombies, but not ghosts and ghouls. She is also a licensed vampire hunter/executioner, with eventual empowerment as a Federal Marshal. In her world this profession involves tracking down and killing vampires who have murdered humans. She is also held in retainer for the Regional Preternatural Investigation Team (RPIT, pronounced Rip-it), which investigates supernatural crimes committed involving magic, vampires, werewolves, and other supernatural creatures. A strong protagonist in the series, Blake is very direct, flippant, and highly competent in the professions she is involved in. She is trained in judo, kenpo and knows how to use several weapons, but is most efficient with guns (as the series begins, the Browning Hi-Power is her carry gun of choice, though later in the series she switches to the Browning BDM). She is also a devout Christian which often creates moral dilemmas fo...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=324349

This companion to the wildly popular HBO series True Blood is at once an introductory guide to the first two seasons of the vampire saga and a treasure trove for the legions of true believers who follow the show. Created by Alan Ball, the Oscar-winning writer of American Beauty and creator of HBO's cult ensemble sensation Six Feet Under, True Blood surpassed The Sopranos as the largest-ever audience for a cable show at more than 12.4 million viewers a week. It has revitalized the career of Oscar-winner Anna Paquin and has introduced international audiences to Stephen Moyer, Alexander Skarsgård, and Ryan Kwanten and an extensive, award-winning cast. Exclusive interviews, in-depth biographies of cast members, an episode guide, and behind-the-scenes anecdotes flesh out the fictional characters as well as the actors who inhabit the roles. Some of the underlying themes of the series—such as the politics of race, sexuality, and gender—are explored, and chapters on paranormal phenomena and the literary and cinematic histories of vampires are also included. In addition, this analysis offers an introduction to author Charlaine Harris, whose popular Sookie Stackhouse novels were the inspiration for the television series, as well as a discussion of the role of the fan base and social media in the phenomenal rise of this television sensation.

!1: Best Buy I was so excited to read the ARC of Truly, Madly, Deadly that I dived right in and forgot to stop. Fans of True Blood will delight in reading every imaginable tidbit of information on the series and the stars. Interviews with the author of the book series the show is based off of, Charlaine Harris and the writer for the TV show, Alan Ball add to all of the information you could ever want to know.

There is an episode by episode breakdown for the first two seasons, which includes things like "Paging Dr. Creepy" which lists the most "cringe-worthy moment of each show". True Blood fans will delight in knowing the locations where their favorite scenes were filmed and why each episode is named after a song.

Wilcott also included a lot of information about vampires, citing folklore and other favorite films, some of which even a vampire loving girl like myself has never heard of. For the many tech-savvy fans there are pages and pages about True Blood mania that is all over the web, from role playing on Twitter to all of the fan web sites. This is a book that fans will refer back to time and time again.

Sookie Stackhouse is just a small-time cocktail waitress in small-town Louisiana. Until the vampire of her dreams walks into her life-and one of her coworkers checks out....

Maybe having a vampire for a boyfriend isn't such a bright idea.

A fun, fast, funny, and wonderfully intriguing blend of vampire and mystery that's hard to put down, and should not be missed. (Susan Sizemore)

Praise for Charlaine Harris:

Harris writes neatly and with assurance. (New York Times Book Review)

An author of rare talents. (Publishers Weekly)

!1: Best Buy I am hooked on the show "True Blood" so I had to read the novels that inspired it. The first book was great. It was not the same at the show but had the same feel and that is what I wanted most. The world is so rich and the characters so fun and complex it is really hard to put the book down. I'm reading the next one now. I can see how this inspired such s cool show. Great book! on Sale!
